The Ramiro family was introduced to wine at the beginning of the 20th century, when Manuel Francisco Ramiro, a great-grandfather of the Ramiro family, used a large part of his land for wine production. However, the next generation would see the vineyards gradually disappear due to the economic crisis in Europe in the mid-20th century, which no longer compensated for the high cost of production due to the mountainous terrain of the vineyards, and the time and hard work required in the rugged terrain of the region. This led to a period of concentration on selling and marketing wines from other regions, but in 2013, four generations after the beginning. Nuno Ramiro and Pedro Raminos were told by their fathers to carry on the family tradition of four generations. But with the condition that they would make wine in their own way. From that moment on, brothers Pedro and Nuno Ramiro left everything behind and went back to basics in order to restore the region's thousands of years of tradition. Firstly, they restored the vineyards, saved the old vines, planted new ones and succeeded in rescuing the authentic Corrales vineyards and the region's noble grape varieties from oblivion. Their mission is to honour their family heritage and traditions by producing wines in Quinta do Cameijo, in the famous Corrales wine region, and in Quinta do Casal do Ramiro, in the village of Alcaidan, between the historic towns of Sintra and Mafra. Despite its proximity to the sea, the deep valley of the Lisandro River and the numerous small rivers that join it create a microclimate characterised by morning and evening humidity and afternoon heat, often reaching 30°C during the ripening period. This climate and the rocky soils make it possible to produce a very specific wine, a balance that is not always easy to achieve in other regions of the country.
